Dr. Claire M. Fagin |

Dr. Claire M. Fagin is an expert consultant for the John A. Hartford Foundation's Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Scholars Program based at the American Academy of Nursing. She also consults for other groups such as the Jonas Center for Nursing, Hunter College, and the University of California, Davis. At this time Dr. Fagin is Chair of the Board of the National Senior Citizens Law Center. Dr. Fagin's remarkable nursing career blends her commitment to professional health and nursing issues with her interest in consumer heath. The nursing profession as well as consumers benefit from her research, publications and leadership. By the time Dr. Fagin completed her 15 year deanship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, the school was the highest ranking school of nursing in the country, federal research support was in the top three, and all standing faculty were Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing. She served as the first woman Chief Executive Officer (Interim President) of an Ivy League University from July 1, 1993 to June 30, 1994. Dr Fagin has received 14 honorary degrees, numerous awards and medals, and has written or edited 10 books and more than 100 articles. Because of her outstanding leadership in launching Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity, the postdoctoral fellowship program was named in her honor. Beginning in 2006, postdoctoral awardees have been known as 'Claire M. Fagin Fellows.' This year, 2010, Doctor Fagin will be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Nurses Association. |
