You cannot work as an LPN in Michigan until you take and pass an LPN training program that has been approved by the state. You will also need to pass the subsequent licensing exam for LPNs.

You will learn a great deal during your classes. Some LPN training programs are certificate programs while others will provide you with an Associate’s Degree. You will usually spend a minimum of one year in training.

Various course materials will be covered during your training. You will learn about maternity care as well as pediatrics. Your training will teach you how to provide nursing services for the elderly and for patients of all ages. You will learn about everything from pharmacology to maintaining patient records. Training will include classroom studies, lab experience and a clinical component.

Alpena Community College

Alpena Community College is located on Johnson Street close to Alpena Regional Medical Center. The LPN program at Alpena Community College is a 45 credit hour course with a selective admission process, admitting only 20 students every fall and 20 students every spring.

Baker College – Auburn Hills

Baker College Auburn Hills Campus is situated on University Drive right in front of Havenwyck Hospital. The PN program at Baker College Auburn Hills is a limited enrollment program that prepares students to eventually take their NCLEX-PN examinations.

Bay De Noc Community College

Bay De Noc Community College is located just off North Lincoln Road near YMCA. The PN program at Bay De Noc Community College is a 43 credit hour course that can be completed in 3 semesters if taken full-time, or 5 semesters if taken as a part-time program.

Delta College

Driving East on Delta Road, take Delta Drive on your left after Mackinaw Road, that should lead you straight to Delta College. The Practical Nursing program at Delta College is a 3-semester full-time course that requires college-level reading, writing, and applied mathematics skills.

Detroit Business Institute – Downriver

Detroit Business Institute downriver Campus is located near Burger King on Fort Street just where it crosses Sibley Road. Detroit Business Institute Downriver has just started its 1-year LPN program which is designed to combine classroom instruction, laboratory skills, and clinical practice.

Everest Institute Rapids Campus

Everest Institute Grand Rapids Campus is located on Woodworth Street NE near Westwood Drive NE. The LPN program at Everest Institute Grand Rapids provides the students with relevant didactic theory and practical skills which are necessary for them to fit in the role of entry-level practical nurses.

Everest Institute Southfield Campus

Everest Institute Southfield Campus is situated just off Lahser Road near Plum Hollow Golf Club. The program at Everest Institute Southfield teaches the students the fundamental practices and principles of nursing, infection control, pharmacology, and anatomy and physiology.

Glen Oaks Community College

Glen Oaks Community College is located right at the intersection of Shimmel Road and College Road. The Nursing program at Glen Oaks Community College is designed on a career-ladder concept that prepares students both for the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN exams.

Gogebic Community College

Driving North on Lake Street, turn left into Jackson Road which will take you straight to Gogebic Community College. The Licensed PN Course at Gogebic Community College is offered full-time regularly. However, there is a part-time option as well which is offered every second year.

Jackson Community College

Jackson Community College is situated on Emmons Road near Eastern Michigan University. The LPN course at Jackson Community College is a 3-semester course that begins only in March. In addition to normal courses, students must also take a licensure preparation course in order to graduate.

Kalamazoo Valley Community College

The sprawling campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College is located on West O Avenue near South 8th Street. The Practical nursing program at Kalamazoo Valley Community College is a minimum 40 credit hour course and applicants are required to have a 1-year high school biology and/or chemistry and/or algebra background.

Kellogg Community College

Kellogg Community College is situated just off North Avenue on Parkway Drive near Spring Lakes. Nursing at Kellogg Community College follows the laddered design where students can complete Level-I to earn a Practical Nursing Certificate or continue with Level-II to become Registered Nurses.

Kirtland Community College

Kirtland Community College is located right at the junction of Saint Helen Road and Sunset Drive. The LPN program at Kirtland Community College can be taken full-time or part-time and has a unique outreach program that provides students with clinical experience in the M-TEC facility Gaylord.

Lake Superior State University

Lake Superior State University is located on West Easterday Avenue right across the street from James Norris Physical Education Center. The LPN course at Lake Superior State University is a 4-semester full-time or 24-month part-time course that prepares students for the NCLEX-PN exams.

Lansing Community College

Lansing Community College is located in Washington Square just off West Saginaw Street. The LPN Training at Lansing Community College consists of 21-25 semester credits in general education requirements and 23 semester hours in core nursing course requirements.
