Ellis Medicine – Belanger School of Nursing Program Review
Ellis Medicine – Belanger School of Nursing prepares ambitious men and women for a licensure as Registered Nurses. The nursing program is registered and approved by the New York State Education Department and Schenectady County Community College. Graduates will be awarded an Associate of Science degree in Nursing with 42 credits that span for four semesters and one summer class. They will have a higher chance of getting a full-time job as a Registered Nurse in various healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and long-term care settings.
The Belanger School of Nursing has formed articulations with S.U.N.Y., The Sage Colleges, Southern Vermont College, Polytechnic Institute at Utica/Rome, Walden University, Empire State College, Siena College, Maria College, S.U.N.Y. Delhi, Chamberlain College, and Grand Canyon University. Students who complete the Associate degree in two years of full-time study can pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Many graduates from the Belanger School of Nursing choose to start their nursing careers at Ellis Medicine. All departments in this hospital accept newly-licensed Registered Nurses.
Admission Information
Qualified men and women who want to pursue a nursing career are accepted in the program of Belanger School of Nursing as long as they meet the requirements outlined by the institution. A student’s application is not considered until all prerequisites are met or if a valid plan for completion is created and submitted along with the application. Prerequisite coursework must be finished before the fall semester or spring enrollment. Students pplying for admission are required to undergo a Kaplan Admissions Test.
Foreign Students
All requirements will be submitted and reviewed by the Admissions and Evaluations Committee individually. Note that nternational students are not admitted to Ellis Medicine – Belanger School of Nursing if not authorized by the United States Immigration Service. Applicants to the nursing program must be a citizen of United States or have a Permanent Resident Alien status.
LPN to RN Program
Belanger School of Nursing offers an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. Licensed Practical Nurses or LPNs with a Practical Nursing education are considered for advanced placement in this hospital-based school. They can enroll for an LPN to RN program to advance their studies and earn an Associate degree. Interested students must meet the general education requirements and submit a completed application on or before September 1st of each year.
The LPN to RN program can be finished in eight weeks. Students will undergo hours of classroom instruction and hands-on skills training in the simulation lab in preparation for the clinical aspect of the program. Belanger School of Nursing provides a small class size and individualized training for students wishing to pursue an Associate Degree in Nursing. The instructors are all licensed Registered nurses and experts in their fields of specialization. At the end of the LPN to RN transition course, the Belanger School of Nursing will give advanced placement credit for Pharmacology, NUR 101, and Nutrition.
Interested applicants of the LPN to RN program must present official transcripts from high school or a GED equivalent, as well as the transcripts gained from their LPN program and colleges attended. This should be accompanied by an evidence of completed prerequisite courses as required for the program. Last, all candidates of the LPN to RN program must present a copy of their registration or license as a Practical Nurse.
Day, Evening/Weekend Program Options
Belanger School of Nursing provides day or evening/weekend program options to individuals who want to earn an Associate Degree in Nursing. Students with a prior commitment to work or family can undergo the program at a schedule that suits their needs. However, there are certain requirements that each application must complete.
Aside from official transcripts, the school requires every applicant to submit two letters of professional and academic references. They will screen every candidate to determine their eligibility for the program.
Facilities
Every student admitted to the nursing program of Belanger School of Nursing will enjoy the services of the institution. The classrooms, offices, individual lockers, and student lounges are available to help the students in their studies. The institution has a Health Sciences Library wherein various journals and books are placed to hasten to learn and provide ferences for aspiring nurses. In addition, since the school is hospital-based, all students will have clinical exposure in Ellis Hospital, Ellis Health Center, and Bellevue Woman’s Center. The experiences gained from these facilities will provide opportunities for training in areas like pediatric, geriatric, medical, surgical, and psychiatric nursing. This will help students gain adequate knowledge of patient care systems, in preparation for the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses.
Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid Programs
The tuition and fees of Belanger School of Nursing vary whether the student is enrolled in a day program or evening/weekend program. Students undergoing the day program pay a tuition of $9,072 in their first year of study and $8,568 for the second. Meanwhile, students taking the evening/weekend program pay approximately $8,190 in their first year and $7,686 for their second year. The charge per credit hour of the nursing program is $315.
Students who cannot afford the cost of the nursing program can apply for scholarships, loans or grants at the school’s financial aid office. Financial aid opportunities are available to deserving nursing students who meet the program requirements. However, this may require a certain Grade Point Average and the program may be limited.
