CNAs can find employment in many healthcare settings including acute care facilities, clinics, hospitals, home health agencies, and long-term care facilities. Nursing care facilities are the top CNA employers followed by general medical and surgical hospitals. The projected job growth rate for CNAs is 21% between 2012-2022. There are already over 1,400,000 CNAs employed as of 2017.

This figure is bound to continue to rise within the next several years. The good news is that these jobs aren’t limited to metropolitan areas. For example, the Washington Parish nonmetropolitan area in Louisiana has the second highest concentration of CNA jobs for nonmetropolitan areas with a location quotient of 2.87. Areas like this further increase opportunities for employment.

Due to the increasing number of elderly population, several healthcare facilities like hospitals and nursing homes are hiring nurses, doctors, and even CNAs. Individuals who are interested in getting into this profession can start with a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position and proceed to a higher level of education. Becoming a CNA in New Orleans is not that difficult and time-consuming.

In fact, there are several CNA training schools available these days to help aspiring professionals start a career in the medical field. However, before you get into a CNA course, you have to make sure that you enroll in the right institution.

A Certified Nursing Assistant training program should be legitimate and approved by the Louisiana Department of Health. It should also have at least 40 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical practice. Anyone who wishes to get into this program should submit a criminal background check clearance, and pass the TB test and the required physical examination.

Every school providing a state-approved CNA training has different curriculum and teaching strategies, but most of them offer a combined theory and clinical learning. It is mandated in the Louisiana Board of Nursing that graduates of the CNA training program have to pass the licensing exam first before they can practice their profession. Their names should also be listed in the Nursing Assistant Registry as part of the mandate.

Individuals who want to get into the healthcare course have to meet the requirements such as eligibility for DVR 0780, an ACT score of 13 in Reading, and a Compass score of 60 in Reading. Additionally, prospective applicants are also required to undergo a criminal background check, TB test, and drug screening upon admission.
